Young Grant County resident dies from hantavirus Posted on July 16, 2024 by Connor Johnson NCW Life June 14, 2024 On Wednesday, Grant County Health District announced that a Grant County resident in their 20s had died from hantavirus, a rare and sometimes deadly virus carried in the urine, droppings or saliva of infected rodents. The individual had experienced a known exposure to rodents, which GCHD says likely took place inside a vehicle. Hantavirus is most commonly carried by deer mice in Washington. It cannot be passed from person-to-person, but can be contracted through contact with infected rodents and contaminated objects, or exposure to a rodent-infested area with poor air circulation.
