Nigel Barker, the landlord of the nearby Wellington pub, said last autumn that the rats were affecting “so many businesses” as various companies use the L-shape alley to store bins and urged the city council (BCC) to take action. The problem was so bad that when the Local Democracy Reporting Service visited the rat-ridden alley at the time, four rodents were spotted in under five minutes.
